Dylan Goes Electric Tumblr - A Tunawax Production

I’m probably going to look back at this post and think I should have just taken the day off. too late. I use to write 57. People would ask, “whats 57?” and I could never say. I would reason up all sorts of things, and in reality I didn’t even like the numbers. It just came together and I didn’t really realize within the situation what the reason was. I never did come up with a good explanation, but I liked the way the two things came together;  arbitrary and cohesive with good possibilities, to me of course.

For some reason I think a chorus of kids singing this song while John Daly is teeing off would be something of sublime. I prefer this method of writing about songs today over having an opinion, because lately my coffee has tasted great, that is to say, pick something and go with it.

I’m going to get recycled for this one, but something about this is just right, or should I say doin’ alright. This reminds me of Donna Summers “I Feel Love” with that straight Blondie rapping style over it, which is a whole bunch of recycled wampam shit. But this is how James Curd rolls, sort of old school underproduced and I can’t really tell if he’s being serious or what the deal is. If he’s serious, then his music isn’t, and if he’s not then you shouldn’t be either. If anyone wants to hook me up with Follow Me, email my email with your email.

Ape Quartet… why can’t I copy/paste from your webpage? Making me write shit that is better than what you already have is almost futile. I can only make so many inane or obscure references and inside jokes to myself before people start looking for actual content… APE QUARTET, are you listening to me? OK so here’s the deal, if you remember Lion Rock, or Chemical Brothers first album (Exit Planet Dust), and maybe you still listen to them on occasion, then for sure check out Ape Quartet’s album Sedatellite (here).

I’m going to break my own rule today, because you can lead a horse to water but you can’t make him think, and you can lead a man to knowledge but you can’t make him think. Not like I have either water or knowledge, but why get caught up with facts. 500 Djnodj points for anyone that can tell me where that line comes from, not redeemable for cash. This is really just a diplo “sort of” joint, I think he gets all the credit because it makes good blog hits or something, its really Peter, Bjorn, and John. dece.

I got a funny story today. When I was about 14-years-old I was just starting to get some money in my pockets and to buy records. One of the first records I bought was something like cosmic loop, or cosmic baby, or orange loop babies, or cosmic orange loop babies, or something which escapes me at the time but I will remember eventually. All I know is that it was sort of a minimal trance-ish track and I wasn’t really that into it but it was something. It sat in a crate until an older friend of mine discovered I had it maybe  a year later and it just so happened that he really wanted it. I think he was trying to collect everything on that label or something and so he offered a trade. I didn’t really care about the record so I was willing and I thought I might be able to score down with a trade for something I did like. The problem was, I was new to all this shit and didn’t know what to call what I wanted. I knew what I liked and didn’t like but I didn’t know the difference between trance, and house, and acid, and minimal, or any of those stupid genre sub genres were. So when it came time to trade, I just said I wanted something “hardcore”, because really what I wanted was something up tempo and BANGIN’. So he pulled out a bunch of shit he thought was hardcore and was playing them for me. In reality I remember everything he put on being sort of industrial, which was not at all what I wanted. So I’m sitting in this guys apartment and he’s putting on record after record and there are several people in the room trying to help out and all I can say is I want something “hardcore”. shit was not working out. Mind you, all I want is something sort-of-cool, becasue the record I was trading wasn’t anything to me. Eventually, I just figure he doesn’t have anything I want and trade for something equally shitty becasue at least one of us is getting something they want, and I’d rather someone was happy even if its not me, besides, he was a friend. Maybe about 6 months later my brother gives me a tape of a bootlegged set by Terry Mullan and I go “holy shit…this is hardcore” … thats what I wanted but what is it? Fucking House music. Lets be fair though, NOT ALL HOUSE IS CREATED EQUAL. Some of that shit is so boring I hate to even call it house. But sometimes it’s bangin’. Some people know the difference. For some reason, the French know the difference.

Titties Out Tuesday: Swamp Ass
August 11th, 2009 |

By now you should all know the Clear lake Audiotorium story. But let me refresh, in 1994 before Buhloone Mindstate dropped, De La gave away 500 clear audio imprinted pieces of vinyl magic (some cds too) to a select group of DJs featuring 4 songs from their upcoming album, and 2 non album tracks this known as the Clear Lake Audiotorium EP. The scarcity has made this a must have for serious hiphop collectors with deep pockets, but we here at djnodj.com aren’t that picky. So here are the 2 non-album tracks from that record. The other ones you need to buy Buhloone Mindstate for, because that album is worth it. Enjoyeee.

Who here remembers the headshot tapes? This was the shit that made us love Stress, Spawn, Gene Pool, Beyond and oh yeah, the beginnings of Slug himself (You knew Atmophere was more than just Slug, right?). Serious bedroom 4 track recorders on a cassette from our neighbors in Minneap. From Industrial Warfare (1998) man this shit was more fun than I want to remember. Comeback.

I got this song back in the early days of napster when I would just search someones library and download random tracks. You never knew what you were going to get… sometimes you just might get something like porn audio labeled Biggie Smalls, and sometimes you might get a song by Punch & Words that sounds like it’s underwater but is so fucking good that it still becomes constant rotation. I couldn’t ever find any info on this song and as much as I hoped a better version would surface it’s never happed. According to Wordsworth himself, this song was a demo for Lyricists Lounge, and he doesn’t have it anymore. I wish he did though. C’est la vie I guess.

Heres one of those guys that had incredible skill and was always on the verge of getting his, but just never got it. Seriously was even in Missin Linx with Al Tariq and Problemz, made that MIA track (that got bit ta dust by Dre) touched the hem of fame, and all they ever did was that EP.  I’m pretty sure this is Beatnutz on the beat… so you know you’ll probably never find this sample. This song is 1997 classic in the same way that a

Chances are that if you know this song, you know the wanker Cobain version… I mean Nirvana version, mostly because they released it three different times. Ok, I don’t hate their version, and I read somewhere it was pretty raw in Mexico, but it’s nothing like the original. Not even close with Cobains awful warbling. Shocking Blue coming correct in 1969. And for breakfast? Dr.Pepper and Smacks. Whats for lunch? Dr.Pepper and Smacks. Whats for Dinner? Love Buzz. Like it should be. In stereairreo.

Fuck. This isn’t coming together today. I need some coffee and a boat paddle to the back of the head to wake me up.

First up, this Santigold song is retarded. I’ve always kept my distance from said Santigold, because many many many many of these artists are good for a song or two of a particular moment but never develop into much of anything, plus… when everyone jocks I ride the pine, ya feel me?

This summer has been an absolute let down, which is always accentuated by the fact that as soon as it’s here it’s gone. Sometimes I almost can’t wait for winter becasue then the anticipations of shitty weather is over. Really, I should move my ass somewhere decent. But until then I’ll be busting out of work and driving to the skatepark with all my pent up excess energy from being a desk jocky. I get so fucking sick of sitting. This song will rip any session with a mile of raw energy that puts my already agressive style into a funnel that either blows out in a disaster, or puts me in the eye and Its on.

The truth is I haven’t listened to this song at all this week. I didn’t listen to it last week either. The original song written by John Holt and performed by The Paragons, straight razor tight shave. I wasn’t going to post this, because sometimes I don’t want to share, but then I get to thinking… I can’t do this shit forever so I might as well let this ride. So enjoy fuckers.

A few years back I drove out to Boston on a whim; had a week of vacation, and ipod, and nothing to stop me. Along the way I realized something profound, and that is Ohio is boring as shit. Ok, not so profound. But I also realized that this Johnny Clarke song is perfect for going nowhere fast. I actually dare you to try and do anything in a hurry to this song… seriously. Last but not least, many thanks to Isaac (of The Fun Years ) for hooking me up with a couch once I got there.
