Dylan Goes Electric Tumblr - A Tunawax Production
Throwback Thursday: Moody

Emerald, Sapphire and Gold better known as ESG were the original proto Disco Funk Dance Punk that is so very hip(ster) these days. They opened for Public Image Ltd. and A Certain Ratio, they released records on the same label as Liquid Liquid, they had their music sampled countless times, and they became a playlist staple at ’70s dance clubs like the Paradise Garage and the Music Box. ESG came together in 1978 and were comprised of mostly the 43 (really 6 tho) Scroggins sisters and produced by Martin (Zero) Hannett ( best known as the producer of Joy Division).  ESG has went though many formations, but none so well known as the formation of their samples that are littered throughout hip hop songs. Especially their eerie squelching UFO which has been sampled by the likes of Das Efx, EPMD, Biggie Smalls, Big Daddy Kane, Public Enemy, LL Cool J, NWA, Mobb Deep, Tim Dog, Doug E Fresh, Masta Ace, and Gang Starr… to Dilla, Peanut Butter Wolf and Nine Inch Nails… it is easily one of the most famous samples in hip hop. Though in 1992 ESG released an EP titles “Samples Don’t Pay Our Bills”, it ocures to me fairly obvious that without samples ESG would perhaps be even more obscure than they are, and that in fact samples do pay “some” bills. And the more people that know ESG… the more people that itunes & Amazon.

Tunawax is the 2010 Intercontinental Dryhump Champions. But rather than hold it over your heads, we’re giving back…Finely picked dance tracks to go cotton to cotton with.

Shaun Slaughter ( not to be confused with Jessie Slaughter) comes up with what is easily one of my favorite songs I’ve heard this year. Day-O being one of those guilty pleasures for me, and this (not really a) “remix” keeps a good amount of the originals vibe intact while inducing a chanty rhythmic calypso bongo groove all over the place.  If I had some sort of rating system… I’d give this song 20,000 dryhumps. Consequences will never be the same.

Fingerbanger Friday: WTFuckery
July 23rd, 2010 |

Despite being one WTFuckery summer; beating us over with lashings of heat, humidity, and precipitation… I’ve not found it to have a stride for me. Nor a voice to bring it into context. Of course it makes sense, confrontations never go well. Though the sailing winds have been blowing us around the lake quite well, no release; WTFuckery indeed. All known be told, the lack of snow this past winter has only increased my appetite. Of course staring at 2 new snowboards (Kass C2BTX & Illuminati Evolver (Thanks Lance!)) and the idea of a highback-less ride to fill my imagination, doesn’t help. So be it I guess. Also in the WTFuckery category is: Triumph Street Triple : Winter Edition. Do they need a test pilot?  So, that’s where I’ve been. If it matters. Here’s what you’ve come for:

Russian stepper Giant dropped this particular deeply driven soother off on Dub Police Records. No surprise there. Really no surprises at all. Good dub from good dub people.

I’ve got the feeling I’ve posted this before, but maybe I’ve only considered posting this before. I’m just going to Boomkat for most of this: Black Acre’s regular badman DZ’s The Things We Do’ makes a laidback entrance with nuff snushine vibes and breezy dub chords sailing over low and swollen subs with a natty junglist swing.

2 dubs in a row… can he make it 3? Yes. yes he can. This is more of a straight 4/4 stepper, and rolling salty wind-whipped headphone ear-tingler. God lovely. Did I mention headphones? Yes. Do entertain me on that.

4 in a row? WTFuckery? Well, take it back to 2003, and It doesn’t really count. Yeah, off Big Dadda in 2003… Diplo was hardly even on the radar (lest you were pumping TurnTableLab into your veins) but its easy to see why it took him mere 6- seconds to go from hollertronix to florida to MIA and inspire legions of producers and new bloggers alike.

I’m sorry Funk League! But everyone should know your name, and I’m yelling as loud as I can. Once again, The Funk League come blazing hot… Last time it was Sadat X, this time it’s Sadat X, Diamond D! & Andy C. It’s not hard to see hear that this is where your ears should be… WTFuckery included as both songs on the Boogie Down Bomber 12″ are worthy of every ounce of vinyl they are pressed upon. Give some consideration to some worthy musicians and support a healthy sound movement. Buy here (TTL).(Facebook) Them.

“here’s to opening and upward, to leaf and to sap
and to your (in my arms flowering so new)
self whose eyes smell of the sound of rain

and here’s to silent certainly mountains;and to
a disappearing poet of always,snow
and to morning;and to morning’s beautiful friend
twilight(and a first dream called ocean)and

let must or if be damned with whomever’s afraid
down with ought with because with every brain
which thinks it thinks, nor dares to feel (but up
with joy; and up with laughing and drunkenness)

here’s to one undiscoverable guess
of whose mad skill each world of blood is made
(whose fatal songs are moving in the moon ”
