Throwback Thursday: Queen Supreme
October 1st, 2009 |

3 things +1. 1. If you ever find a moment of self doubt and don’t know what to do, no matter the situation, Nina Simone will tell you what to do in a way that brings you home. 2. Her voice is the comforting thunder of knowing, understanding, empathy, and commiseration.  That “I’m one of you, too” warmth and whit she put into her songs and performances is what was consolatory and empowering about so much of the soul/gospel/blues (aka black) music, and what is missing from it (and any other music really) today. 3. A couple of my favorite Simone songs for you on this collision course with the tomorrows to come (+1) This photo is one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen. If anyone has any idea who took it, I’d love to know. Email me at mail at djnodj.com.
