Thursday Shocker : 1995
September 25th, 2008 |

Year in Date: 1995

The U.S. bails out Mexico and it’s struggling economy with a $20 BILLION dollar aid program. There are 2,000 dead in Rwanda. The O.J. trail begins on Jan 24th. Timothy McVeigh tries to blow up the Oklahoma City federal building. KRS-1 continues to do work. His second solo effort, self-titled was filled with some nice some jammy jams and good collaborations. Self produced, except 3 tracks which DJ Premier, Showbiz & Diamond D did. (“Very Nice”) The album featured quest spots from Busta, Das EFX, Fat Joe, and Mad Lion. It also had an appearance from “Channel Live”, a group that KRS was bringing up, they didn’t do a whole lot, but this track is hot.

The movie “The Usual Suspects” comes out, putting away with the La Vegas betting line that Stephen Baldwin would ever make a good movie (+/- 1). The world’s first sheep is cloned, people allergic to wool around the world riot in mass panic. Stamps are 32 cents and ya still gotta lickem’. O.J. is found not guilty…no joke, they said he didn’t do it! The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame opens up……… in Cleveland? Mickey Mantle, Jerry Garcia and Howard Cosell all die, I’m Grateful about one of them. Steele & Tek of Smif-n-Wessun later to be dubbed the Coco Brovaz due to copyright legalities hit us with this…

Picture this in 1995. I’m flying to Seattle from Anchorage, Alaska then to Minneapolis on my way back home from a basketball tournament. It was an incredible experience, ate spaghetti that had moose meat in the sauce, saw mountain goats on a glacier and didn’t hoop to bad. So before we departed form the state that Russia gave away. With my left over per diem money, I decided to grab some tunes for the trip back to the main 48. Anchorage, Alaska has a Sam Goody, for real they do! Sarah Palin was working that day, she recommended and sold me this, and I bumped it all the way home.
