Many things can be said about Gil Scott-Heron and his place in music, or poetry, or culture. I’m not really interested in that. What I admire about Gil is his ability to connect facts with the symbolism that puts it into perspective. His ability to put a voice to anger, a cut on rhetoric, and connect with people. We could use someone of this voice these days. A messenger with a message, and the strength to stand up and say it. Better yet, someone that can see things for what they are, or at the very least, what they are not.
