Fingerbanger Friday: Walk Tall
April 3rd, 2009 |

What manner of person cares what is happening about everything? Busies their mind with useless facts that are of no concern but to simply make self importance in their head. What is the thrill to know what about others and nothing about their own nature?  What a waste to wake and cease to dream, except maybe to dream of the endless useless details and fill each moment.  What kind of person derives ego from knowing something for the sake of knowing? What kind of person satisfies themselves with endless opinions on all things but what good they can think at any moment? How can the pursuits of things that will fall away like a dead leaf fill a life? What kind of person sacrifices a moment to pretend, to the dullness of just being real? Where is the joy in taking for granted and ignoring the ticking seconds of imagination that present themselves to blow the world open with a smile… to say fuck, what am I doing? Forget myself. Forget my pretenses, I remember I’m still alive. Whatever that means.

This song is my first-day-of-spring-that-all-the-windows-open-and-its-warm-enough-to-lay-on-the-bed-in-my-underwear song. That day hasn’t come yet, but I got the fever and now you too can drop a little Bobby Caldwell into your ears too thinking of me in my underwear (ps. sometimes spidermans, sometimes dr.dooms).

Fingerbanger 1: Bobby Caldwell – Open Your Eyes (don lowed)

Remember when Common was deep into the Badu? Remember how down to earth he was? Feck… before the united-neons-of-kanyeton got at him, he wrote some of the most real and honest lyics about that …ugh… love, that anyone could put into one song and not be full of munster. Because it don’t take a whole day to recognize sunshine. Dilla on the production. Double nice.

Fingerbanger 1.5: Common – The Light (don lowed)

And, sorry, all those romantic notions you have of absinthe spoons, manic episodes and Kerouac-like rambling on a long roll of butcher paper really aren’t operative. Creative work is mostly showing up every day and enduring a million tiny failures as you feel your way to something a bit new.
— Chuck Close

Fingerbanger 2: Richard Swift – Lady Luck (don lowed)

The ignorant mind thinks there are always two opposing dualities, two opposing forces. Ignorance sees a black and white, a good and evil, an aggressor and a defender, guilty and innocent. The invention of a position to which to differentiate one from another, there is then invented a division. Blue-green and Green-blue then become opposition as if one were so different than the other to be an enemy. They guard against the other as if one were right and the other wrong,  and then dig a canyon between their similarities both out of self justification. The truth of their commonality is lost to stubborn intelligence, and pride. In the end, all seas are one, but a perceived difference divides both sides.

Fingerbanger 3: Sharam Ft Kid Cudi – She Came Along (don lowed) (removed by request of Samantha McHarg-Sharp)

Damn, K-Os (myspace) is fresh up some heat with his new album Yes! ( coming April 21st) (Amazon). No one can say “whatever” as cool… and whatever genre mashing, skipping, flipping, fucking is whatever he has going on. Most songs can are based loosely around a single other source, but then you start saying, oh whats that from? whats that? I know that too… so what and ever and k-Os is on his own planet. (that being Toronto. Did I mention how much I like Toronto?)

Fingerbanger 4: k-os – I Wish I Knew Natalie Portman (don lowed)

Fingerbanger 4.5: k-os – 4,3,2,1 (don lowed)
