Lo and behold I will not let you down.
Being a member of society, sometimes I get asked the most ridiculous questions. An example is, if I go to the partymart for coffee, one of the gas station drones will always ask, “Is that coffee or cappuccino?” while checking me out. The difference in price is $.10. I will gladly pay 10 fucking cents to never have another high school dropout ask me that question again. Another question that I never know how to answer is, “did you find everything alright?” To which I sort of freeze up and stare at whatever I’m buying… not knowing if there are secret goods out there that I am missing; I am of course buying shit. Maybe they should ask the people who leave without buying shit… even at that, I suspect that they don’t really care but are trying to be polite. Another one of these questions is, “what is your favorite song?” huh? Thousands of CD’s, Records, Digital Love…. A favorite song??? No matter, in all situations I’m obliged to give a reply. Yes, it’s cappuccino… It’s ALWAYS cappuccino, shitty cappuccino in an ugly foam cup… delicious, now take my extra 10 cents and be quick about it. Yes, I’m buying shit… if I had not found it, I wouldn’t be at the checkout… otherwise I gave up, either way, you’re too late. And…my favorite song is “Melting Pot” by Booker T & the MGs. Maybe it is, and maybe it isn’t. Still, it’s the answer I always give.
Why that song?
1. It has a vibe. a classic sound. like an alleyway.
2. It feels mature, relaxed, and comfortable in it’s space.
3. It’s complete. Like a good book. beginning – middle – end.
4. It’s not a song for every moment, but its the perfect song for some.
5. If by chance anyone reply’s, “great song.” I already like them.

I’m going to come right out and say… I have been a DJ Nobody fan since Soulmates. I absolutely love the psyche-rock-ish Pacific Drift and formidable And Everything Else. So imagine my pleasure of finding a new Nobody album under the name Blank Blue just dropped called Western Water Music Vol. II (2). The follow up to Pacific Drift takes a oblique turn into a hazy aural sea scape washed with vocals by Niki Randa; building and deconstructing until the end, reminiscent of maybe portishead, but more meandering…maybe flowing . IMO, a complete album that is meant to be listened to as a whole, with a intent, to tell a story. It might not be my favorite Nobody piece of work (Pacific Drift), but it’s still a real piece of art. Listen to more Here. Buy it Here.

I’m sitting in the dining room with Admiral Meatbag discussing the merits of being a catalyst for events beyond day to day operations. He is actually doing work, and I’m actually covered in sweat from skating. I fire up the record machine and drop on a DJ Food record that I inherited from someone that bought a lot of records and forgot why. DJ Food aka DJ Cold Cut aka Matt Black and Jonathan More… a Ninja Tune artist. DJ Food orginally was a monikor they used to realease breaks records, but morphed into a more substantial experience with A Recipe For Disaster and Refried Food. Anyhow, I put on a song called The Crow (dub), and its good…but the dub version leaves me hanging, it doesn’t have the full punch and I’m itching for the real thing. So here it is, off of Funkungfusion or Kaleidoscope…

I teased you all this week with this one, and I’m not sorry, because now I’m giving it to you. Again. And again. And again. Classic Break meant to be pounded out in full-sweat-it-out-move-those-hips get it loud and proud so that your block erupts into an imbecile glory orgy. I can’t stress this enough, if you’re not in love with this, you might be asexual… or broken. Don’t be broke little fella, get fix, do less math.

This last one is obligatory. I won’t make any claim to its validity in the lineup of today’s post. It easily claims title of the odd one out, and that’s ok with me. It is here because maybe, one day you might be caught in the path of a run away car and at that time, you might find that all you can think about is how beautiful it looks crashing. I’m not making that statement, I’m simply throuwing it out there for consideration. So really, it’s just a song that I wanted to post b/c I’ve been listening to it… John Selway
