I got no sleep last night… or in the past week really. So I doubt anything intelligible will come from me today. This is in opposition to the typical highbrow route I take. You’re probably thinking that usually I sound like a drunk cheerleader taking a mensa test… and you’re right, but just ask my friends, I don’t know whats appropriate and whats not. It’s actually a medical condition. I would take medication for it, but they wont give me Valium since that time I took off my clothes at the roller rink to get some extra low for the limbo…Alright, seee, this is going downhill fast. I’m going to move on to the cream filling. Every song I know is cataloged in a memory of how, where, when I first heard it. From Debbie Deb to Syl Johnson to Daft Punk and NWA… I can tell you where I found each record, how I came to listen to certain artists, the progression from RHCP to Dead Kennedys to Buffalo Springfield to Ween to Sven Vath to Kool & The Gang and back again. Not that that matters, I just thought you really wanted to know.

First up: This past weekend DJ Ack was in town and we were doing the record digging, pretzel with cheese and hotwings, who cakes, bowling and shapeshifting reptile people, laughing at everything specials when someone mentioned dubstep. Ack and I don’t really have a dubstep affection… honestly, I don’t really get the whole dubstep/grime thing. I think the whole notion of it is something to listen to while getting lifted. Anyhow, but I did play for him this song that I picked up on some blog a while back, and we both dig it. So here it is… Fiery Furnaces. Remix by Bass Clef.

I picked this up a few years backwhen it was repressed on Aestuarium. Worth every penny. The 12 has a re-version on it, but this is the OG… a bangers and mash track obscured by the unfortunate fact that it is, after all, a Disco record that was pressed in the large quantity of 500 pieces. Damn… I’m giving away rarities here…wtf is wrong with me? Enjoy this one while you’re cooking up some homemade uppers/downers concoction for you’re Friday nights; Guaranteed to make anything nasty you can think of the best idea you’ve ever had.

Fingerbanger 2: Dan Boadi & The African Internationals – Money is the Root of all Evil.

A few minutes years ago when I was rocking the record store gig, some distros would throw a few cds for shit they just picked up and wanted to get some orders on without it being in their catalog… these were always the best promos. Like a pair of fresh new titties to playwith, it was always the highlight of any week…brand new music from obscure artists…nut nut nut. One particular day I got a box which seemed to have nothing particular in it… skip boring dialog about what was in it… HOLY FUCK! EDAN!!! Edan Edan Edan. Sidenote: did you notice how I just equated music and sex? It’s real people..

After winter comes a healing. A frantic escape from the oppressive weather, a sigh of relief when even getting into a sun baked car feels like your own personal private sauna heaven. Spring time has always been De La territory for me. Roll down the windows and Whatever happened to the Emcee, times have changed for the Emcee, every woman and man want to… Damn, just thinking of it makes me want to quit my job and hangout at the golf course hollaring at middle aged women in Acura SUVs. Right now though… this is where I’m at. Sunshine.

Fingerbanger 4: Mos Def – Sunshine

This is a Summer song. I’m all about summer. I wonder why god made Wisconsin so far from the equator. I wonder why I’m not bartending some tiki hut on a white beach. I wonder why people hate on house music, I mean, besides that it’s house music. to be more precise…Disco House. Scream. Laugh. Cry. I don’t care… if I’m driving long distances, I’ll put in a song like this and mash that pedal.

Fingerbanger 5: Le Knight Club – Cherie D’Amoure
