The newer N.E.R.D. album is HOT!!! I’ve been honking this to everybody and won’t stop. Pharrell is smooth, very smooth. I think “The Neptunes” commercial production stuff serves its purpose and the joints they collectively do, is what it is and normally is the hottest track on whatever artist’s release. But… the N.E.R.D. releases feel so much more personal and showcase so much emotion. Smooth like the ice behind the zamboni.

A different type of smooth in my book, but still thick and creamy none-the-less. In weird but not awkward way, versatile but not for the sake of being versatile… no ham. The scratchy voice raps with great rhythms and it turns over into a buttery singing voice that lathers up various slices of toast. Delicious –

The undeniable, impeccable, old school superman of smooth…Big Daddy Kane! A quick story: Back in 1989 a young Zito set out in a car full of family members to Milwaukee, then Chicago for a summer vacation which included a Brewers, then a Cubs game. Half way there we stop, stretch, eat and walk around a mall. I pick up 2 tapes, Public Enemy “It Takes a Nation” & Big Daddy Kane “It’s a Big Daddy Thing”. Hard to argue with this track as a classic and/or standard in smoothness. Although Sade may have something to say in regards to the title… wait, I’m not sure which song came first. Kinda like that saying, which came first… the chicken or this Big Daddy omelet?
