Look at that sea, girls—all silver and shadow and vision of things not seen. We couldn’t enjoy its loveliness any more if we had millions of dollars and ropes of diamonds. – L.M. Montgomery

The tales of great high school soul-bands are still rare. A ballad or two on the random Douglass High School Stage Band album or Timeless Legend’s mesmerizing entry on Columbus’s 1972 1st Annual Inner City Talent Expo notwithstanding, high school bands rarely struck into the realm of “grown folks” music. Enter The Equatics and their brooding masterpiece Doin’ It!!!! [ read more about the Equatics here] – I’ll probably never have too many versions of this song.

He is not heroic, he is aware that modern life is full of nondescript melancholy, of discomfort, of queer relationships which beget emotions that are half-ludicrous and yet painful and that an inconclusive ending for all these impulses is much more usual than anything extreme. – Virginia Woolf

Some people blame all their problems on society and other people blame all their problems on those people and that’s the difference between a democrat and a republican.

Now&Again artist Dimlite can warm you up and cool you down in the same instance. Making a name for himself with collages of chipped and chopped sounds, his new Prismic Tops album isn’t as adventurous as it is an homage to his sounds of influence, making the whole greater than the parts that its composed of. If you ask me, I’d say that is more artistry than his previous work, though probably less accessible than songs like Back to The Universe.
