Fingerbanger Friday: Dont Stop Naw
January 30th, 2009 |

We live an interaction between our imagination and the imagination of the universe. A warm rhythm, a dance maybe, or a struggle, a kick and a pull… it depends on what your seeing in your thoughts. Thoughts form the colors, the tints, the perception of what is real, and those hues are the feelings we have inside of us. If we expect something, we will find it somewhere… maybe everywhere. And if we want something, we have to see and feel it first.

In my head, I think of Alias as a maker of greedy beats, ones that stomp through a song with a crunch of a boot on hard city pavement. But sometimes Alias changes boots, and puts one on a gravel road to a simpler place.

Rosebuds album Life Life almost seems made for reflection. Those that don’t think to take a look at whats down inside themselves, and the road they are on, might not get much from it besides a pretty melody. But if your looking for something to listen to while the snow falls outside…

Cars are one of the best places to listen to music, with the enclosed acoustics and wide 360 degrees of possible places to drive and explore, sometimes it’s down right therapeutic.

Fatlip was always the best in Pharcyde (try to argue, but I can’t hear you) and I think most people would agree. His flow really wasn’t all that different, it was his unconventional way of wording his verses… off kilter ideas but always spot on contextually. When I first head this on the Prime Cuts comp, I thought for sure Fatlip was breaking out and going to blow, but then his album got shelved for years (but its out now). Anyhow, one of the best hiphop songs about self depreciation and insecurities… pure work. Spike Lee Jonze did the video… Check it.

Yo… D Nice is making videos (and bloggin) about some of our favorite old school rappers and how they made it called True Hip Hop Stories, and they are dope fresh. More on his blog or youtube. Check out Joe Ski Love talk about perspective in hiphop… its worth it.

-swoon- I think I love you – or the perfect pairings of musings and music at the very least.

Hey, dunno if that was just a typo but wanted to correct ya on the director of the fat lip vid — that was spike jonze, who also did a sick job with pharcyde’s ‘drop’: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0KTF3eqtxgY
