Fingerbanger Friday: Sweet Heat
April 17th, 2009 |

I’ve been horny lately for a hot and easy road trip. Somewhere that takes a long time to get there. Roadstops, backseat naps, spilled drinks, windows down, sleeping bag blankets, and lazy possibilities. In fact, I don’t really even want a destination. Going nowhere in particular and getting there on time. Enjoying the day because the day exists, make love.

Between the spilled coffee and shirt that doesn’t look right, things like this slip through the cracks of daily life. I mean, most people aren’t deep in the bushes spearhunting the sweet meat, and even fewer are playing 45’s on a record player, and even fewer are importing them from Bath, England. So what I’m saying is that you’re going to want to open the windows for this skanked up dub’d out horn heat funk. The Snugs (myspace) straight up should play my next BBQ, and while they have only realeased a couple 45’s so far… theres a lot more to be found from Freestyle Records (website). Buy the 45 before it sells out (and I guarantee it will) Here.

Unknown to me until a little bit of time ago, Thao Nguyen (myspace) is making a sort of indie rock that blasts you with a joyful noise and leaves you wondering where the sound went. I think… they remind me of the Cranberries, and thats not bad. I want to be young again and listen to this all day long. Buy on amazon.

Fingerbanger 2: Thao Nguyen & Get Down Stay Down – Bag of Hammers (don lowed)

Guru was never a complex emcee, never would have been as influential w/o Premier, never as hard as the name Gangstarr implied. But Guru did have a nice flow, did keep the lyrics real, and made great music. The jazzmatazz album was constant rotation for a time, and reminds me of a time when you would listen to a whole album just to hear it. I can’t remember the last time I listened to a whole album front to back. Who has time for that.

Fingerbanger 3: Guru – No Time To Play (don lowed)

My favorite song this week is from Wave Machines. Wave Machines. Wave Machines. I’m a dork for this sound, so simple and deliciously electronic. Everything is ok. www.wavemachines.co.uk/

Fingerbanger 4: Wave Machines – Keep The Lights On (don lowed)

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Stop being miserable, just stop, and listen to CoCo Solid. I just realized this song reminds me a lot of Alex Gopher’s Party People track (youtube it here). Still…don’t be so serious, have some fun. www.cocosolid.co.nz

Fingerbanger 5: The Parallel Dance Ensemble: Coco Solid & Bobbi Soxx – Turtle Pizza Cadillacs (don lowed)

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

This video is best in High Def. So do that. Fuck.

O/ver E/nd O/ut – P.tone
