The Stars which appear to revolve around the North and South Poles of the heavens provide a natural a natural clock to tell the local time. In the Northern Hemisphere the two bright stars in the Big Dipper, which are known as the pointers to the Pole Star, can be used as the hour hand; and the position of the Pole Star can be taken as the imaginary center around which the hand rotates.
