“ A sensitive person receives fifty impressions where somebody else may only get seven. Sensitive people are so vulnerable; they’re so easily brutalized and hurt just because they are sensitive. The more sensitive you are, the more certain you are to be brutalized, develop scabs… I can’t trust anyone enough to give myself to them. But I’m ready. I want it. And I may, I’m almost on the point, I’ve really got to … Because—well, what else is there? That’s all it’s all about. To love somebody.

— Marlon Brando in a profile of him done by Truman Capote for The New Yorker magazine in 1957 titled, The Duke in his Domain.

I went down to the bomb shelter and grabbed this from my ninja coffee crate. I call it my ninja coffee crate because everything in it will kick you in the fucking ear and wake your ass up. Big Youth’s debut album Screaming Target was a revolutionary recording that brought the Deejay and the Emcee to the minds of the listeners, and one notable precursor to the chants and sampling of hiphop. It is also credited with inspiring The Sex Pistols, The Clash, and the round house kick of chuck Norris.

I was checking out some new things that floated my way when In my ear came some kids rapping about Brew City. Now, I’ve being just a spit north to Brew City aka Beer City aka Cream City, and thought I was touch with the hip hop scene in my neighbors lawn, but I’m not. From Milwaukee creates Blackout Sands (myspace), the album Who Killed Jiminy Cricket? (listen/buy). And while you can expect mostly aggressive indie style sounds from these cats, they got a little softer belly on this track.

I was hunting through some more stuff and saw Ray Barbee guesting on a track by Brown Co.(myspace) and thought, I have to check this. Brown Co is Haji P.(myspace) and Dundee (myspace) with MF Shalem on production, and while I’m familiar with MF Shalem (myspace), I only have mixtapes of his, I’ve never heard of the other two. But I liked what I heard, and listened a bit more… and liked it even more. Solid and positive hip hop that pays tribute to styles of Tribe, De La, and having fun. Buy on Amazon.
