Titties Out Tuesday: Little Young
September 15th, 2009 |

2 things in the world I love. (1) Hating on the current state of Hip Hop (2) Masta Ace’s flow. So right now I’m sort of doing the superbowl shuffle in my seat. For a minute I was like… this beat is tired. But then Ed O G comes in and starts blasting little holes… and then Masta Ace finishes this shit off Mortal Combat Style ripping the spine out and holding it up for all to see. Had my head nodding, and not because of the beat. Get it. The full A&E album coming October 6th.

i’ve thought hip hop was shit since the early to mid-90s personally, until this year when i got turned onto a bunch of new stuff.

Have you checked out Quasimoto yet? Changed my whole perspective on the situation.

Yeah. If we are speaking of the same dude, Quasimoto being an Madlib Alias. But the first Quasimoto album the Unseen came out in 2000 ( I’m sayin’ Common was still common in the 1..9..9..9), so I don’t really consider him/that too new… Madlib of course is a many styled fellow.

I agree that there are still artists/groups that are holding it down. But no one is listening anymore, becasue the vast majority of it is unlistenable, it doesn’t speak to anyone or anything that is realistic. But, thats just my opinion.

Same Quas, and i guess you’re right. i hadn’t realized, but “The Further Adventures…” is damn near five years old now.

What about the new DOOM, though? Or “Jay Stays Paid” (yes, technically not “new” since he’s dead, but still)? i think it boils down to the only label worth a farthing these days is Stones Throw. They’ve got all the uber-weird funky cats, it seems.

Agreed, overall Nas was right about the genre. But there’s still a few glimmers, a point on which you seem to agree.

MF was like the Kool Aid Man bursting through a wall when he came out ( in1999)… Refreshing. But I think after 10 years of rocking the same flow… the freshness has worn off… and its been 10 years! IMO Madvillian with Madlib was the pinnacle of his creativity.

Jaydee (rip) is dead, and really I think his best work was with pharcyde in 1995 and De la in 1996. I don’t know if I’m going to count him anyhow. Producers are still making some solid sounds, but the over all message is whats been lost.

Its interesting how “rap” or “hiphop” was all about bringing a message that no one else was able to say… and now it can’t seem to find a voice that anyone cares to listen to. But… I think the bigger picture is that, it doesn’t matter what genre is being scrutinized, Punk to jazz to whatever, the same can be said.

maybe I’ll write about that sometime.

Madvillian is playing in LA at the end of November. i have no idea if they’re playing new stuff, if it will be real or fake Doom that actually shows or what, but i’ve got to say, it’s the one show i know of that actually makes me jealous of people who live in L.A.
