Fingerbanger Friday: Godspeed
March 11th, 2011 |

Our conscious motivations, ideas, and beliefs are a blend of false information, biases, irrational passions, rationalizations, prejudices, in which morsels of truth swim around and give the reassurance albeit false, that the whole mixture is real and true. The thinking processes attempt to organize this whole cesspool of illusions according to the laws of plausibility. This level of consciousness is supposed to reflect reality; it is the map we use for organizing our life. — Erich Fromm

A quick reference to yesterdays post, but on the fake-out remix tip. I wish I could smack every kid that called a mashup a “remix”. It’s not a remix. It’s sorta like how living in a cool city for a few months doesn’t make you “from there”. Or how you scammed some backstage passes, and now you tell people you’re “friends with the band”. All classic mistakes that make people think you’re a clown. I still sorta dig this mashup.

(Update: Ha! Yes has said that the “remix” in the title was added by someone else. I believe there is a pretty good chance of that. So… there’s that.)

It has been said, that “common souls pay with what they do; nobler souls with that which they are. — Emerson

Carl Nordström aka Affictionados once again brings Ms. Owman into her element with dripping triphop vocal that swings and sway in an eerily familiar way. These two are building quite an impressive sound, both independently and together… I urge youhttp://revolvingrecords.com/

Meh… I’m not much of a review guy. I sometimes try, but it’s plain to see that here, since I by and large don’t write long sanctimonious arguments on the validity of any artist. I find most reviews to be banal, reaching for pseudo-intelligent comparisons and picking at impossible to defend weaknesses. Always trying to value an album based upon technical merits of specificity. Which is a sort of sad thing to do in my opinion; mechanically dissecting something that is ultimately an emotional movement. IMO,all that stuff is close to missing the point, and really what is there to understand about someones music besides how it moves you. Unfortunately, in the case of Starfucker, they move people with melodic pop music that must in some way make them feel guilty for enjoying such lightheaded happiness ( albeit sometimes with subtle melancholy undertones), and so the justifying technical arguments come out in droves, at which point all hope is lost. New album Reptilians Here.

I never called it a remix :(. Someone else must have labelled it with that.
