We’d been arguing about something on the hike up. Points and counterpoints shipped out slowly over the heavy breaths of midday exertion.

Back in the 2002 ( hiphops last stand) The Pharcyde and Souls Of Mischief quietly put out a 12″ on the Heiro Imperium under some not so subtle pseudonyms : Rod Sterling, Squirt Reynolds, Dick Vitál, Blair Thunderwood, Tony Boner & Danny Libido aka the Almyghty Myghty Pythons. I think there was always a “what if” hype about what would happen if those two groups were to get together, and when it did materialize I think it was just too late. 2002 was the ATL age of Outkast / Luda /50 Cent… and backpacker age of  Atmosphere / Aesop Rock / Murs. Everything in the middle kinda got lost. The regretful part is that The AMP’s didn’t disappoint… and any speculation on what a full production would’ve been like is sure to frustrate those of us that still consider the Loot Pack to be “new school”. haha… oh shit.

Spaniard Drem Bruinsma (Blind Coyote) started out back in the mid-1970s experimenting with two ARP 2600 modular analog sythesizers, a modified Philips electronic organ and two Revox taperecorders. Myspace. Q’ararenqa is a word originating from Quecha language, meaning a black bird with a white tail. When it starts singing near you, beware….danger!

The title track is a unique collision of Eastern and Western melodies, a product of Talal & Zoi’s Pakistani roots and their current living quarters in Toronto. Inviting tech-house beats are infused with tweaked vocal snippets and rattling poly-rhythmic textures building to a deep, swaying breakdown. Shimmering sitar strokes interact seamlessly with haunting Rhodes keys, muted guitar plucks and tuned percussion, all merged together with top-notch production.
